(Monday, March 31, 2014) Dancing with the Kansas City Stars 2014 raised the roof and created a groundswell of support for students at Cristo Rey Kansas City. Honorary chairs, Dr. Gregory and Cathy Fox, warmed the hearts of more than 1,000 guests by sharing their personal experiences of working with students at Cristo Rey.
First place honors and Judges' Choice Award went to Ryane Delka, Co-President, Silpada Designs, who tangoed with her Allegro Ballroom partner, Jesse Lopez. Second place went to Larkin O'Keefe, CEO and owner of MedTrak Services who disco-danced with partner, Toni Dodd; and Jenny Murphy, NonProfit Connect's Rising Star of Philanthropy, took third place dancing the Jive with partner, Wil Oden. Rounding out the all-star line up were: Stann Tate, Dr. Valerie Chow, Chris Hernandez, Rick Jones, Kevin Ryan, and their Allegro Ballroom partners — who all stole the show — along with Cristo Rey students who received a standing ovation after their rousing dance performance. The 2014 All-Star line-up shined so bright.
“A million thanks to everyone involved - the hundreds of volunteers and especially the amazing dancers - who all gave so generously of their time, energy and talent,” said Dr. Kathleen Hanlon, President of Cristo Rey Kansas City. “I am humbled to witness their commitment to help provide the opportunity for the energetic, highly motivated and talented young men and women of Cristo Rey to thrive in the face of major life challenges…and pursue their goal of achieving a college degree,” she said. “The effort and dedication of so many caring Kansas Citians provides a powerful example for our students.”
Dancing with the Kansas City Stars helps to fund the gap between what Cristo Rey students earn working one day per week at their Corporate Work Study internships and the cost of their college-prep education.
