Cristo Rey Kansas City Crest

March 17, 2020

Dear Cristo Rey Kansas City Community,

In light of the accelerating impact of the Coronavirus and health agency recommendations, our school will close for a minimum of 10 school days beginning on Monday, March 23, 2020 through Friday, April 3, 2020. In order to continue instruction for this academic year, the school will provide mandatory online classes beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

The goal is for all students to stay current with their academic work and continue learning while the physical school building is closed. For this reason, the school has created expectations for students that include the following:

  • Virtually attend and participate in classes according to the schedule provided by the school. Student absences should be reported daily using the contact information provided by the school.

  • Complete and submit assignments to teachers via Google Classroom or email.

  • Communication with teachers via email or Google Hangouts. Students can expect a response from teachers within 24-48 hours, typically by 2pm daily.

  • Check the daily schedule and the school’s PlusPortal periodically (at least twice a day) and respond in a timely fashion to all communications.

  • This closure also impacts CWSP jobs. Students will not report to work on their work day. Instead, they will complete CWSP assignments as a part of the E-Learning plan.

In order to support online learning, students and teachers have been provided with devices to support learning from their homes. Most students have told us that they have the internet access needed to engage with their teachers and complete assignments while school is closed. If your student does not have internet access, please contact the Principal’s Office immediately (816.595.2801) to receive assistance from the school with a free internet hotspot.

More information about our E-Learning plan, including how to access online tools, daily check-in, and student schedule will be provided before the end of the week on PlusPortals as well as in an email to all students and parents.

The school will continue to provide you and your student with regular updates regarding classroom instruction and its return to a regular schedule with classes held at the school site.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns regarding our school's plan for classroom instruction during this current health crisis.

Sincerely,

John O'Connor - President

Michael Padow - Principal

Ted Koppen - Director of Corporate Work Study
