The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth - a religious community of more than 250 Catholic women - dedicate their lives to the love and service of God and neighbor, especially women, children and the poor. The sisters serve in the Midwest and Western United States and in Peru, working primarily in the areas of education, health care, social services and pastoral ministry.
In 2006, the Sisters made a bold move. They agreed to sponsor a high school in Midtown Kansas City intentionally formed to serve only students who could not afford to pay private school tuition. Seven sisters were missioned to open Cristo Rey Kansas City. Today, sisters are present to the school as staff, board members, and volunteers. Cristo Rey Kansas City is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth.
